Rethinking Language Education Through Plurilingual Voices at Sorbonne University
Conference Presentation
On 26 January 2026, Jing Chai presented “Participatory Research in Chinese Character Learning: Insights from a Global Crowdsourcing Platform” at Sorbonne University’s conference Rethinking Language Education Through Plurilingual Voices. The presentation explored how Chinese character learners can participate not simply as research subjects, but as contributors whose experiences, languages, and imaginations help shape both knowledge and practice.
Drawing on more than 6,500 learner-generated character associations collected by I Got One, the talk showed how crowdsourcing can turn individual learning strategies into a shared intercultural resource. Bringing these learner voices to an international conference on plurilingual education highlighted the value of creating research with learners—not merely about them.
