Jing Chai was invited to speak at the NYU Shanghai Faculty Lunchtime Speaker Series with a talk titled Hack the Conceptualization of the Impossible Chinese Characters. This long-standing series is a cornerstone of NYUSH’s intellectual community, offering faculty across disciplines a platform to share ongoing research with colleagues and academic staff.
The talk drew an audience of over 50 attendees, who were captivated by the project’s inventive approach to Chinese character learning and intercultural interpretation. Following the presentation, guests were invited on a guided tour of the companion exhibition, A Cosmos Within Chinese Characters.
Among the tour participants was NYUSH Chancellor Shijun Tong, who praised the project as both “creative and impressive,” highlighting its potential to reshape language education through cross-cultural imagination. The event sparked enthusiastic conversations and left many inspired by the rich possibilities embedded in a single stroke of a character—when seen through a global lens
