The left part is GRAINs that a person on the right side of the character grew – it was a long “journey”!

Journey is like a plant – you grow a grain by presenting(cheng, that is actually mouth + ruler/king) your journey to a friend.

Because this character contains the characters grain, mouth and king, it makes me think of the way grain goes through the government to get to people’s mouths. It’s the JOURNEY of a countries food system.

The grain radical is the same height as the 2nd component of this character, which kind of looks like a person. I’m sure the process of the grain growing to this height was a long journey for the plant, and the person growing it.

The left part is grain, the top right looks like rock, and the bottom right looks like the character for king. It reminds me of mankind’s journey

The left side looks like a tree, the right side top looks like the Sun, and the bottom right side looks like a little person. The way I connect it is that back in the old days, when you’d go on a JOURNEY sometimes you’d get tired and rest under a tree to hide from the beating Sun.
